Overview |
Castilla y León’s beautiful and varied landscape adds an extra dimension to playing golf in this region. There are 20 courses spread over its nine provinces: Ávila 4; Burgos 3; León 2; Palencia 1; Salamanca 2; Segovia 3; Soria 1; Valladolid 3; Zamora 1
Here are some notes about the most interesting, taken from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation’s excellent website (available in Spanish and English). |
León, Zamora, Valladolid, Salamanca, Ávila |
Aldeamayor Club de Golf
Valladolid’s new golf course is situated inside the “Urbanización Aldeamayor Golf” golf and residential complex, just 10 minutes from the centre of the provincial capital, in a unique setting. It is open to players of all levels, and the facilities are brand new and of top quality. If you have always wanted to take up this fascinating sport but haven’t found the right time or place, the Aldeamayor Golf Club is just what you have been looking for. The course already has 9 holes with a par of 27, ideal both for expert players and recent beginners. The par-72 18-hole round (opened in March 2002) is a varied and entertaining course, and will more than satisfy all visitors. The best pros in golf teaching are available, with a teaching programme which will enable you to acquire the rudiments and basic techniques of the sport in just a few days. The beginners’ and improvement courses are aimed at both adults and children, and are offered at many different times and are open to everyone.
Campo de Golf de Candeleda
The Candeleda golf course is planned to have 18 holes; the first 9 have already been built and have been open to the public since April 2003. Set on the southern face of the Gredos mountains, which protect it from cold winds and currents, the course enjoys an exceptional climate. With a design by Manuel Piñero largely adapted to the requirements of the natural environment, the course is long and attractively difficult, with water hazards all the way around.
Campo de Golf de Salamanca
Situated in the Monte de Zarapicos, in the province of Salamanca, the course was designed by the professional Manuel Piñero. The course is 6,045 metres long and has a par of 72. Even though it is situated in the mountains the course is reasonably flat and very comfortable to walk round. The size makes the course especially fun for big hitters though accuracy is also important and you will need to choose your irons and woods very carefully. There are numerous hazards on the round, especially the strategically situated bunkers which call for prudence and a more technical game. Mistakes are not punished too severely and you can generally recover well enough if you keep a cool head so it’s a great course for amateurs. At the same time, the course has everything needed to host top-level competitions, and was the venue for the 1998 Spanish Championship.
Club de Golf El Fresnillo
The course is situated very close to the famous city of Avila, in a wonderful natural setting with marvellous views and offering a pleasant and enjoyable round. Every part of the course is a tribute to the careful design by Carlos Corsini, in which abundant indigenous vegetation has been combined with numerous streams and lakes to create an extremely attractive course which all players will enjoy. This leisure and sports complex set in the natural landscape of the province of Avila lies on the El Escorial road, just 3 kilometres from the provincial capital. Located in the former agricultural estate of El Fresnillo, with its 140 hectares, it is the largest leisure and sports centre in the province of Avila.
Club de Golf Entrepinos
The "Entrepinos" course is 5,200 metres and is located 12 km from Valladolid, on the left bank of the River Pisuerga, surrounded by a huge pine wood. It is also 2 km from the historic village of Simancas, which is full of natural beauty and buildings such as the XVI century parish church and the bridge over the River Pisuerga.
Club de Golf Lerma
The Club Golf de Lerma in Burgos is right next to the Burgos-Madrid motorway so it is very easy to get to. Designed by José Gancedo, it has 18 holes and is located in one of the most interesting parts of Castilla, close to Lerma, Santo de Silos, San Pedro de Arlanza and Covarrubias, to name but a few places worth visiting, and the local cuisine is famous for its quality. The course preserves the natural charm of the region and the setting which the land of Castilla y Leon offers to golf lovers. Its carefully maintained holes and the wide range of facilities make this a great place to play a game of golf, enjoy a day out, and revel in the beauty of the natural surroundings.
Golf Villamayor
El Villamayor Golf Course offers an 18-hole round with a par of 72, and is one of the longest and most difficult courses in Castilla-Leon. The designers of the course aimed as far as possible to respect the natural character of the area, as well as reforesting it with different species of trees: pines, chestnuts, walnuts, palms and olive trees. The course has two rounds which are very different in style. The first, which consists of the nine first holes, is an English-style course. This first part of the course is the most difficult, while the second stretch is more in the style of the American courses, where the difficulty lies in the greater distance between the holes, the presence of three lakes, and the numerous bunkers. The course also has about hundred granite rocks which give this new sports complex in Salamanca rather an unusual character. |

Campo Municipal Golf Isla Dos Aguas
The course is built inside the new "Isla Dos Aguas" sports complex, covers a total surface area of 13 hectares and is located in the centre of Palencia. Although at first sight the 9 holes of the course may seem small, when you go round it you will be pleased with the care which went into the design the course.
Club de Golf Las Llanás S.L.
The Club de Golf Las Llanás is situated on the high Castillian plains, and it is the transparency of the air and the changeable, but normally dry climate which make this a pleasant course to play on. The course is mainly flat, with wide fairways and large greens, and with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards which make some of the 9 holes a bit tricky. With two par-3s, one par-5 and half a dozen par-4s, the course at Grajera offers an attractive round. Furthermore, there is a modern practice course near the clubhouse. Grajera also offers a wide range of leisure activities, outdoor sports and excellent Segovian gastronomy. |
