Navarra’s beautiful landscape adds an extra dimension to playing golf in this region. All three golf courses are not far from Pamplona.
Club de Golf Ulzama
This course is 22km to the north of Pamplona in the Ulzama Valley. Take the N121 Pamplona to Irun road, turning off in Ostiz towards Lizaso. It is set in the middle of an oak wood on uneven ground but without any really steep slopes. The Spanish Golf Federation describes the first nine holes as being quite technical, and the last nine as making up one of the best rounds in Spain. Its18 holes cover just over 6km.
Club de Golf Señorío de Zuasti
This course, ten minutes from Pamplona, was designed by Jose Mª Olazábal. You get to it from the A15 Pamplona to San Sebastián motorway via the Zuasti services. It has an excellent drainage system which allows it to be used all year round. The first 9 holes run through pine trees, with a river, lakes and mountains, and constitute a round of an incredible natural beauty. Part of the round is open, and the rest is wooded. There are three lakes in the course. It is set in one of the most interesting oak woods in this part of Navarra. Its 18 holes cover a distance of nearly 6km.
Club de Golf Castillo de Gorráiz
This course is 4km from the centre of Pamplona. You get to it on the N135, turning off towards Olaz-Huarte. Its modern design features wide undulating greens and three big lakes. Its long platforms of tees, the varying width of the fairways, and the different pin positions mean the degree of difficulty of the course can be adapted to any level of play. The course is in a tourist complex where you can combine golf with other sports in a gentle rolling landscape. Its 18 holes cover a distance of nearly 6.5 km.
There’s lots of useful information (in English) on the Royal Spanish Golf Federation’s website and you can book a tee time for the Ulzama and Gorráiz courses.
