The Maddiola Inn is a recently built guesthouse in the traditional Basque rustic style. Situated on the Igueldo mountain overlooking the beautiful city of San Sebastian, the summer capital of Spain. An ideal location to enjoy this delightful city, only a short taxi ride to the centre of San Sebastian, but a peaceful place to come home to, with marvellous views of the mountains and sea, and surrounded by gardens and land home to grazing pottokas (Basque ponies). A great place for outdoor activities as well as the city; walking, paragliding, surfing, sailing, fishing, canoeing and many more. Animal lovers are welcome to help feed and look after the ponies. Six large double bedrooms with tv, ensuite bathroom, individual outdoor terrace and wonderful views. There is also a large communal lounge with open hearth for cosy evenings in winter, and a relaxing mini spa completely free of charge for our guests use, and wonderful at the end of a day of hard holiday activities. ‘Accommodation is clearly key when looking for a little R&R so it was with great joy that we discovered our temporary abode to be perched atop Mount Igeldo, one of three mountains skirting the city. Newly built but retaining the look of an old farmhouse, Maddiola is part of Nekazalturismoa, the rural house association that requires properties to hold a licence issued by the Basque Government following an inspection. It is pretty much a guarantee of quality and indeed, our temporary abode was a delightful resting place. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts of homemade yoghurt, honey and fruit salad are deliciously healthy and the mini-spa was a most welcome surprise. You simply cannot beat waking up and looking out on to a vast and sprawling coastline …’ |
