Posada La Trebede has excellent views over the Picos de Europa National Park and is only ten kilometres from its borders. Caserias de Soribias are a group of holiday houses and country cottages in the beautiful National Park area of the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain. All the houses are in small villages or lovely countryside close to the lively central market towns of Arriondas and Cangas de Onis, with their traditional buildings, bars, shops and restaurants and tourist attractions. La Vega is a very old house (more than 100 years old) with its stone and wood structure, that has been renovated while keeping its rustic style. It is located in the village of Villar de Huergo, in the area of La Vega, being part of a group of constructions called "quintana" in Asturias. To one side there is space for parking.
La Vega consists of two floors. The ground floor is made of visible stone and wooden beams. The sitting room with its fireplace is on this ground floor, as well as the kitchen, with a rustic bar, washing machine, microwave, fridge and TV. On the first floor, reached by a spiral staircase, there is an attic double room with large double bed, and its fully-equipped bathroom.

The region of Liébana is located in the eastern part of Cantabria, bordering with Asturias, León and Palencia. This deep valley, eroded by the Deva River and its tributaries, is surrounded by peaks rising over 2,000 metres above sea-level. The Cordillera Cantábrica (Spanish for the Cantabrian mountains) includes the Picos de Europa and the Peña Sagra mountain ranges.
Four valleys conforms the region: Valdebaró – municipality of Camaleño-, Cereceda, Vega de Liébana, Valdeprado, Cabezón de Liébana and Cillorigo. The town of Potes, capital of the region, is located at the confluence of these four valleys.
All throughout history, the hilly geography of Liébana was the refuge of settlers who resisted Rome in the mountains of Vindio and Medulio. When the Muslim invasion took place, many Christians took shelter in Liébana. Those last Moors who survived the Battle of Covadonga were executed in Los Llanos, Camaleño.
Many monasteries were built in the area, such as the Monastery of San Martín de Turieno and Santa María de Piasca. However, the most important among all is the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, home of the lignum crucis, the largest known relic of the true cross. Toribio de Astorga brought the lignum crucis from the Holy Land to save it from destruction at the hands of the Arabs. Since the 16th century, Santo Toribio de Liébana along with Rome, Jerusalem and Santiago de Compostela has the privilege to celebrate the Holy Year. Whenever the feast day (16 April) falls on Sunday, the Door of Pardon opens and the Liébana Holy Year is inaugurated.
In the Picos de Europa National Park we find the hilliest and most beautiful landscape with peaks rising over 2,600 meters above sea-level. The National Park includes almost all mountains, an area of around 700 km2.
Liébana’s tradicional way of life is characterised by isolation and self-sufficiency. This is the reason why the region has preserved an interesting and varied ethnographic heritage.
Every village in Liébana is a museum, full of popular culture and preserving very important rural architecture, such as the nobleman’s shields and the last hórreos of Cantabria, distinctive stone granaries, raised on staddle stones to prevent rats climbing into the grain.

Small rural house with garden, built in the 19th century in wood and stone and located in the village of Argüébanes, at the foot of the Picos de Europa National Park, declared by UNESCO a Biosphere reserve site. The park is a favourite with walkers and climbers. There are also opportunities for canoeing caving and horse riding. There are also numerous friendly villages to visit, some which are quite remote. The house itself is set among mountains, walks and rivers, but only 4 kms from Potes, the capital of the Cantabrian district of Liébana.
